Revolution

There's so much in the world,
To keep you occupied,
It's better to consolidate them,
To give substance to your life.

Imagine all the things you do that are unrelated,
And the energy expended on them.
Do they help inform people who are,
Or are they an hindrance?

It's like part of society's agenda,
Is to blur the line between its components,
To somehow safeguard itself from fragmentation.
But, I think, it underestimates humans.

But it's alright,
The human spirit can prevail,
But not by bloody revolution.
That's just another way it makes sure we fail.

Learning Curve

I don't want to have to do it,
But I guess if I must, I will,
I only wish it was not such a one-sided test,
And that the other might be killed.

I guess part of the trial rests in my need,
Within my heart for things to even out,
Instinctively- or maybe I was brought up,
To lower myself to mediocrity.

So I hope we can get through this together,
And that each one of us acheive a new height,
For if not, then my experience will change,
And will not be one of communion, but of might.

And it's alright,
I'll do what I have to do.
And maybe deep in my heart I hope I get to destroy,
Just to experience something new.

Non-Stop Train

There are non-stop trains,
That go just about anywhere,
That pick you up when you don't really expect it,
To places you otherwise wouldn't dare.

And what's the best way to deal with that?
Well, first off, don't let it destroy your patience,
And the good times you would have had anyway,
In the time before you reach the station.

And try to be as pleasant as possible,
Because you never know if who you're sitting with,
Will be sitting with you again,
When you find yourself on another trip.

And it's alright,
The only way you ever get anywhere,
Is when you take these journeys and you can't turn back.
Nothing great was ever done without necessity there.

It's Not Over

It is getting harder,
Everyday.
With everything that happens in a life,
Shouldn't there be something to say?

Or is there really a point where you may as well,
Have done everything there is to do,
Because the scope of emotions is limited,
And experience can't create any new?

I guess you'll never know until it's over,
And even then, you may not have done everything,
There was to do to expand your horizons,
And make life more interesting.

Oh, it's alright,
Even this depression offers new insight,
Into the fact that no matter how good things are,
Nothing is ever exactly right.

Boxing

Just because you can't do something,
Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
You may as well blindfold yourself,
And be carried by life's current.

Demands are often, but of so little import,
You could do them well and never be noticed,
Not that recognition's the ultimate ends,
But, do you think disappearing is?

Of course, if everyone did that, then no one would have time,
To notice each other at all.
If everyone jumped off a bridge,
Who'd make the 911 call?

And it's alright,
If the two don't really connect,
Maybe you'll stop and think of me for a moment,
I think I just thought of you for a sec.

Full Hands

There is no more to say,
So why does it go on?
To say it again in today's language?
But if we stopped talking, language would have no evolution.

And one could always just refer to the truth,
That is found within every age,
That when stripped of all meaning,
Is expressed in the exact same way,

And just understood when you are a certain age,
And everything is drenched with wonder,
And you may as well be speaking in the queen's english,
Or with a clap of thunder.

And it's alright,
I can't say anything right now.
I'm holding a small life in one hand,
Who knows all of this, anyhow.

Stand Up

You can withstand a lot of opposition,
Even the kind that puts you against,
Very powerful antagonists,
If you are willing to resist.

Strength's not in strength but in the belief in it,
And the willingness to put mouths to the test.
Most vocal people use their voice as their fist,
And never have to exercise the rest,

Of their defenses, namely the physical back-up,
To their threats. Am I being redundant?
I know it's hard, but you must be willing to fight,
For your right to be existant.

And it's alright,
If you have to put your money where mouth is,
What good is life if you can't challenge it,
And show it that you exist.?

The Chaotic Realm

Somewhere in between,
What you think and what you know,
Is an uncertain realm of floating images,
Where you don't want to go,

Not because it may be dangerous to do so,
But because, frankly, it's easy.
It demands the loss of all that you are,
Which begs the question: "once you're there, who'll you be?"

But, it's good to remember its existence,
The fear of which keeps you aware of life,
And the ultimate choice it demands of you:
Would you rather live, or would you rather die?

And it's alright,
You don't have to decide right now,
In fact that's something you need never decide.
No matter what, you have no choice anyhow.

Just Do It

When there is a lot to do,
And you don't have the time,
Just do one thing after another,
Because you might be surprised,

At what you get done because the trick with tasks,
Is that duration only exists,
When you sit back and wonder at the obstacle,
At which point, of course, you're not doing it.

And when you're lost in the job, doing your thing,
You'll be away much less,
Than during the agony of procrastination.
Have I nagged enough, yet?

And it's alright,
You don't have to do anything,
That's what separates children from adults.
That, and the underdeveloped thinking.

Getting It Right

That may be all,
That is left to talk about,
And time is running out anyway,
And all that's left is doubt,

About how things will end up, though there's always reason,
To be unsure of that.
What changes is not really circumstances,
But your ability to ignore facts,

At all times, because they can tell you nothing,
Unless you know their true connection,
To each other, and no one really does,
Even if they're masters of chemical reactions.

And it's alright,
If you only live as if you don't know,
It's better than living as if you do,
'Cause, ultimately, you don't.

Time To Go

I don't want to coast through life,
I want to do all of the things,
People say aren't wise, not because they aren't,
But because they're not about money.

I want to fill life to the brim with risk,
Not the type that actually threatens life,
But the type without which no one ever,
Can actually have a chance at greater heights.

I don't want to be sitting idle for long,
Though, I know that's needed at different times,
To remember why you do anything at all,
And to give perspective to the highs.

And it's alright,
If the risks don't always work out,
You can't win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket,
You can't live your dreams without conquering doubt.

Perfection

Nothing has really struck me,
Like the way that life just,
Keeps on trucking, but I guess to be life,
It must.

And thanks to stages I can look back on it,
And thanks to stages I can look forward, too,
And either way I look, it seems to me,
That it's always been about finding you,

Whether it's in life, or just in things I see,
The layers you've added make it seem,
Like my own existence has doubled by triples,
And I don't even need to know what that means.

It's so alright,
I really couldn't ask for more,
Because I know I have so much more coming to me.
Finding out more about you's what life is for.

Happy Father's Day to Me

Yes I am a father,
'And, what does that mean?', you ask?
Well, how I act is affecting someone who,
Won't follow anyone else's back.

If I'm happy, he is happy, too,
And if I'm angry, he won't understand.
The more time I spend with him, the more he'll grow up,
To be just like I am,

I think, because you never know how someone will be,
And that's part of the risk and fear of raisin',
A whole other person, though connected by genes,
Is a completely individual person.

And it's alright,
He's still the greatest thing that's happened to me,
And one day he'll be old enough to tell me himself,
Whether I was good at parenting.

Jump

Go ahead and jump,
There's a lot to celebrate!
How about the fact that you're alive,
And that your life couldn't be more great?

Let's see, you have all of your limbs in tact,
And people are looking out for you everyday,
You were born in relative freedom,
And if you want to be something, well you may.

If you want to jump all day, that's alright,
In fact, it may be something I might prefer,
So that I could persue my non-jumping endeavours,
Like, thinking about the fact I'm a father.

And it's alright,
If you want to stop,
I'll be there for you, jump or run,
On my list of things, you'll always be top.

Never Give Up Hope

It's not that reassuring,
When all your hope must rest,
Within the bounds prescribed by salary.
Though hope needs some boundaries, I guess.

Like, don't hope outside your class because reality,
Demands you be realistic,
And though some people jump over that wall,
They're rarely respected for it.

And never, never try to excel in an art,
That hasn't been recognized as of yet,
Because the only people to benefit from that,
Are those to copy you after you're dead.

Hey, it's alright,
Hope's not the greatest thing since sliced bread,
Money is, and if you get enough of that,
You'll have fulfilled the hopes of many humans.

Clocks

Clocks can be your enemy,
Or, at least, what they represent,
And when you've done all that you need to do,
Well, then they can be your friend.

They're great to look at when you need time,
To just stop until you catch your thoughts,
But, if you ever want something to sympathize,
Don't look to clocks.

Really, that's the only thing that separates us.
Without our feelings, we would only mark time.
Sure, we may make more noise, and a clock will never make a human,
But we're all born, take up space, and then we die.

And it's alright,
If you keep no clocks,
There will always be one counting down the time.
Until they put you in that ol' pine box.

Knocking

There is not much time now,
Though, I'm sure I've said that before,
And it's not like opportunities will stretch themselves out,
So that life always presents the same door.

Not to say that it will be the last,
If you were stuck in the same room all your life,
You may as well be dead, unless it's a choice.
'Cause keeping doors closed can sometimes be nice,

And solitude, too, if you're that type of soul,
That needs no one, no way, no how,
And needs no recognition from no one but yourself.
Though, I don't see how that's possible, right now.

And it's alright,
If the door doesn't lead where you thought it would,
If life was as all predictable as that,
There'd be no rooms, doors, woulds, shoulds or coulds.

Fire

Fire is mesmerizing,
It has no stable body,
While suffusing its light on everything,
Like a ghost, it haunts me.

It is itself but cannot live alone,
A great power that needs its energy,
From something from which it can suck life,
That kind of sounds like some people I've seen,

With the exception that fire has no ill-intent.
Though its beauty makes me forget,
All the times it's burned me in the past,
And that reminds me of some people I've met.

And it's alright,
If I never get close enough,
To see the world as fire does,
Because of my fear of being turned off.

Happiness

Life is so perfect,
What more could you want from it?
It's got everything you need for success,
While making you feel like you deserve it.

Every moment offers you a choice,
While giving you the powers,
Of instinct to free up some of your time,
For planning some future hours.

And happiness isn't even tied,
To the circumstances you are in,
Just like they say, 'money can't buy it,'
Neither can poverty cause its destruction.

Though, it's alright,
If money wants to rain down on me,
Really, it's the only thing that offers freedom,
Unless you are completely insane.

Daily Thoughts

I am so very sorry,
Though, my intentions were good,
Though, again, in every sentence,
There is a skosh of truth.

And I hope that you don’t hear,
What it is I actually said,
Though, I might have to tell you, myself,
Just to curtail someone else telling instead,

And that, just to make sure you,
Understand my true feelings,
And that sometimes I say things with the purest intentions,
That from most sides seem to be just mean.

And it’s alright,
You can do the same to me,
And I will laugh, though I’ll also understand,
That somewhere in there is honesty.

Justice

Social consciousness is important,
And fairness for all.
So does that start with the government,
Or individual people?

One person can do little,
And it's hard to find one goal for many,
That does not become so fascist,
So as not to change anything.

And the government's already,
Of a mind that doesn't want to change,
For the destruction of oneself,
Who would want to arrange?

Yes, yes, it's alright,
I know, it's not this easy,
Or fatalistic, but if you have the answer,
Please, why don't you tell me?

Reaching You

Sometimes, it may be hard,
To acclimatize yourself,
To the life of another person,
Because they really are someone else,

And how can you truly know what they think,
The way that you know what are in your thoughts?
Not to say that one really knows all about oneself,
But, at least you know which things you do not,

Like your dreams, which are perhaps the most important,
And then, how you will attain them,
Well, maybe the dreams don't really mean that much.
Different dreams can be found from the same method.

Is this alright?
Am I really making sense?
I guess I am, if we're speaking the same language.
Oh wait, I just said something different in the last sentence.

Keep On Trucking

Have you ever forced yourself,
To do something you don't want to?
Because, I think it's good for your character,
When it's something you don't have to do,

To think back on and consider this:
That, at the very least, it's something that,
Provides you a secret formation of self.
Regardless of what people take as fact.

Of course, one might consider everything that she does,
As against her ultimate will,
Because society makes demands on us,
That are completely unnatural.

And it's alright,
If you truly feel that way.
You're right from many different perspectives.
Just don't lose yourself forgetting it's still you getting through the day.

Welcome Back

I really like change,
Even when things are going well,
Though, in the end it makes life go by faster,
It also makes me feel like it's more than just a shell,

Protecting a soul until it can quietly slip out,
Disturbing the least amount of people possible.
I want my soul to dash around like a pinball,
And make every shell it hits roll like a ball.

And on the horizon I see a great change,
With the arrival of a big part,
Of my second half. I feel our lives will be provided,
A new expression of our individual arts.

And it's alright,
If everything seems to stay the same,
We can't but help to see the world differently,
Or to, even slightly, readjust our aim.

Oops

Sometimes you make mistakes,
And by you, I mean everyone.
Actually, I mean just me,
In this particular situation.

And I'll admit it but will I be,
The one who pays for the consequences?
I hope it is or I'll be constantly looking,
For my final come-uppances.

And I'll be more careful in the future,
Though, I know I'll make a mistake again,
Just like you will, well maybe not,
If you can help from making a decision.

And it's alright,
I won't hold it against you,
Though, please, try to hold it against me,
Or I won't know what to do.

Getting It

I have never been one to read people,
I've gotten by with obliviousness,
And a deep assumption that people,
Generally mean best.

But I have also missed out on opportunities,
Not catching the nuance,
Of a phrase or look, I guess it's what's helped make me.
And would I really want to take the chance,

Of trusting what I think I know about,
Where I should be, or isn't it best,
To let nature take its place, like it always has?
I think time has been the test.

And it's alright,
If I've missed out on things that I think,
Would have been great, because you really never can tell,
The true meaning of a poke or a wink.

Take It Easy

Just when you think it's over,
It starts up again.
And thank god for that, because without drama,
Life would have no ends.

But remember that you must just,
Take things as they come,
And be a spectator, or else you'll forget,
Life's true mission,

Which is to observe and digest.
Not to say it's that dry.
Of course, it's good to get caught up in it,
Just think about it before you die:

That it's alright,
If it throws a curve ball now and then.
But it's only a curve ball from a certain perspective,
And figuring that out's the true mission.

Straight Talk

Sometimes there are those moments,
When you are not allowed to say,
Something that in another time and place,
Would be absolutely okay,

Like, 'cut the cheese', or maybe, 'let's have a gay old time',
Or, 'I believe in the right to choose',
Yes, words can hit as hard as a fist,
Or they can help you tie your own noose,

Or raise you up head and shoulders above.
Like nothing else that exists,
The voiced vibrations you send into the world,
Can produce a whole new brand of ists.

So be careful, alright,
When you have your finger on the pulse of the world,
To use your power for honorable things.
You can't walk a straight path talking in circles.

I'm Not Lonely

Could I ever make it,
Truly alone?
I think if I was, from this point on,
I don't know.

There is so much that one does,
For the esteem of others,
And with the of help others, too,
Things otherwise not bothered,

Like records and attempts to break them.
In solitude, one's broken with every move,
And only celebrated if it's acknowledged,
That it's a record you may one day lose.

And it's alright,
All this talk of being alone is a lie,
First, because I must surely be talking to someone,
And, also, being with someone doesn't mean they're nearby.
