How To Be Free

If you're not doing what you want,
But you have little choice,
Because of the responsibilities handed to you,
With a heave and foist,

In the baggage that was purchased,
Before you were even born,
Like Clooney in that movie Up In The Air,
You don't need to have it no more,

Because it only requires that you cut,
The ties that bind to everyone you know,
From parents, to friends, to employers,
And those you meet as you go.

Then you'll be alright,
And free to do what you'd like,
And if you think about close connections with others,
Don't believe the hype.

Business

Here's one more difference between business,
And what you might call life:
In business you should take no offense.
Tenaciousness should be the heights,

To which you strive, for no other emotion,
Will serve you any purpose,
But to engage energy of the soul,
Into something everyone knows,

Is not personal, because it is money,
That drives the decisions made in it,
If not, then no matter what anyone tells you,
You are not doing business.

And it's alright,
If you'd rather live by your heart,
Just remember, if you want the comforts of life,
You may have to step out of it for a start.

Schedule By Attitude

There are seven ways to be,
And you can be one each day,
Until you reach the point of being able,
To immediately choose a way,

To be in any given moment, given,
What the circumstances demand,
Intuitively, not by choice.
That is the ultimate circumstance,

To allow you to observe your world,
As you experience it, like never before.
Go on the most effective auto-pilot,
And be uncertain no more,

Unless you want to be, alright?
This is the gift of being alive.
No state of being is denied your heart,
And no thought is denied your mind.

The Problem With Business

Business is a nasty business,
It's nothing like life,
Where friendship matters more than performance,
And it pays to be nice,

And where you don't have to do anything at all,
Either for others or for yourself,
Just to keep assured of your status,
And you're not afraid to ask for help,

And where you never have to say,
"It's just business,"
Which is always a precursor, or a cap,
To some kind of cruelness.

Because, is it alright,
That something that takes up so much of life,
Should be so diametrically opposed to it?
I mean, it is, right?

What If

You will often find,
If you look back on your life,
Instances of opportunities lost,
That just might,

Have erased all your worriies for stability,
But for which now it is too late.
Like that song, "if I knew then what I know now."
It's enough to make you irate,

With yourself and everyone you've ever known,
For not being quite good enough,
To have the vision others obviously do,
In figuring out stuff.

But it's alright,
It's all relative.
You can alway's make-believe,
You are a big success.

Second Guess Yourself

Second guess yourself,
Each and everyday,
And each and every moment,
About everything you say,

And everything you do, for that will surely,
Bring out the best,
Of all your worst decisions, 'cause that's what happens,
When you second guess,

Because the things you do that ate really good,
You do without a thought,
Even the thinking you do before doing,
Can be top notch.

But it's alright,
You can actually get by,
Not believing in anything that you do,
You just won't fly.

What Life Owes You

You will never stop wondering,
What would have happened if,
No matter how happy you happen to be,
Or how pissed,

You are at the hand life dealt you,
Despite what you may have tried,
To do to thwart the forces trying to bring you down,
And destroy the dreams you wish had never died.

Even though you know you'll never know,
If things could have been different,
If you had altered your actions a modicum,
Or had caught the messages that were sent,

To help you be alright,
And guide you to the truth,
That life never gave you any guarantees,
And owes you no kind of loot.

The Past

Never throw out,
What you were in the past,
Because it hurts no one if you keep it,
And it will last,

As long as you, and without it,
You may as well start from scratch.
Don't throw the baby out with the bath water,
Even if that water's really bad.

Even if it's filled with blood and destruction,
And things no one should ever see,
Keep those things with all the rest,
And they will be thinned by other things that be.

And it will be alright,
You can take the best of what's there,
And build the life you always wanted,
Should you never have a care.

No Greater Joy

There is no greater joy,
Than when you forget what you want,
And just do what you're doing,
In the moment.

And that is because,
Joy is matched with,
Getting what you want,
No matter the context.

Isn't that strange,
When there's really no reference,
To something you can call true,
Outside of some sense,

That things will be alright,
If you believe in it?
Life is funny that way,
So get used to it.

How To Make It Right

You have to stop,
What you are doing,
Every once in a while,
To get your berrings,

And look at yourself from another place,
Other than inside looking out,
And assess the quality of living,
You are churning out.

And then you can decide if you are doing,
What you actually should,
Given your talents and desires.
Of course, it's probably too late if you could,

Try to be alright,
By trying something else.
Life doesn't afford many chances,
To figure out yourself.

Getting Away

The best part of getting away,
Is looking back on your self,
And observing what you do and what you don't,
For your mental health,

And what you do and what you don't,
That you always said you'd like,
'Cause if we did, or even could, then,
There would be no fights,

Or discontent, but wait just a minute,
The presumption here is too large:
That doing what you like is how to be content,
Rather than just living with nobody in charge,

Of you being alright,
And safe from others.
What a wacky structure that rests on protection,
And not on loving each other!

Nothing at All

When you just feel like curling,
Up in a tiny ball,
Without disturbance from the outside world.
Or anything at all,

From within, so that all you hear,
Is the confusion of the void,
And the fear of what there really is,
When you strip away all the toys.

And when I say 'you', let's be honest,
No thing would actually exist,
To observe this cacophany of silence,
Or to envy it.

And it's alright,
Because, if you really could,
Learn what there is without your perspective,
You'd also be beyond evil and good.

Be What You Want To Be

If you want to see where you've gone,
Then visit who you were,
At all the haunts you used to go to in the past,
But just be sure,

You're talking to the right version of you,
And not who you thought you should have been,
And start asking yourself some questions,
About where you think you're going.

Now calibrate that with your own journey,
And assess the distance you have traveled.
Are you impressed by the progress you've made,
Or sufficiently less enamoured?

Now, alright,
Go find the person you want to be,
Again, talk, calibrate and assess,
And set course for that trajectory,

How To Do What You Want

Of all the things you want to do,
There are only a few that you can.
And of the things that you can do,
There's only a few you can ram,

Into your life, so you better choose wisely,
And choose the ones you really want.
And of the things that you want to do,
There are some you just can't,

Because you won't be able to do the one,
Simultaneously with the other.
And of the things you want to do that you can,
Good luck having the courage to bother.

'Cause it's alright,
Having great ideas.
But to put them into reality,
Requires big cojones.

You'll Never Have It

It doesn't take much,
To place yourself out of time,
And place to get a look,
At that for which you pine,

Which is everything that you are not,
Because the nature of human beings,
Is to forever be dissatisfied,
And searching,

For your ideal self. It doesn't matter who you are,
No one is exempt,
Even if you are admired by most,
There is always something left,

That will make you alright,
If you only had it.
And until you do, which is impossible,
You'll always be discontent.

To Do

There is a big difference,
Between sticking with something,
And being passionate about it,
For fifteen,

Minutes, until you forget all about it,
Because that's just how you are made.
Think about how far you could have gotten,
If you just stuck with something for a day?

But that is what separates those that do,
And those that never will.
IS there any hope for you?
Only time will tell.

And it's alright,
It also depends,
On what you truly want from this world.
Success or regrets.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

No Chance

There it goes again:
Time and all its potential.
Before you know it, there'll be nothing left,
And with regret, you will be full,

For things you didn't do, which some argue,
Is worse, than for things you did.
"But, society leaves nothing left for ourselves,"
You say on your death bed,

Which may be true if you try to be responsible,
To the activities,
Which are demanded to maintain this system,
Of inequities.

And it's alright,
No one's saying there's an alternative.
Either you live in this world or you,
Live life as a fugitive.

What To Do

You will often ask yourself,
Why did you not,
Now that you think about it,
Go after what you want?

And why are you doing what you're doing now?
You will find youself thoroughly depressed,
Not because you're not doing what you should,
But because you forget,

That there are always an inifite other things,
That you could be doing at any moment,
The majority of which you can't even imagine,
Like what you're doing at the present,

And what you could next, alright?
Because the next moment also brings,
A world of possibilities,
And new beginnings.

Others Will Help

There is no way of controlling,
What happens around you,
But, that doesn't negate knowing,
What you have to do,

Which requires more assumptions than,
Our assumptions would like us to think,
We'd need, because it's their job,
To fool us about being,

Beings that know something,
About where we come from.
So, tell me on the life of those close to you,
What is your origination?

And it's alright,
You don't have to tell me today.
Just keep it in mind the next time,
You're expecting things a certain way.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

It's Alright

The first part of being okay,
Is knowing where you stand,
And then of knowing that everyone else knows where that is,
And that they understand,

That where you're standing is where you want to be,
And if you think there's any confusion,
To be okay, you have to rectify that,
With those who are the persons,

Closest to you or who can,
Affect your life the most.
You'll never be able to make the world understand,
Just like you can't understand those,

Who are alright,
But diametrically opposed to you.
Just be satisfied with where you are,
And with what you do.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Yes, We're Different

There is a certain point,
Where some people reach,
When there is less left to actually learn,
And more to actually teach,

And less time available for those,
Who do not have the aptitude,
To achieve the same level of ability,
To comparable level of truth,

Or, to put it another way,
Their potential has been tapped,
And their existence in a higher life,
Is not something that,

Can exist, alright?
There, somebody has said it.
Now, can the world start finding places suitable,
For all the different sorts that exist?

Demand the Best

It's alright to say,
That someone's not up to par.
In fact, if you are actually saying that,
Then you may have just raised the bar,

And disallowed the type of activity,
That has led to failure in the past.
It's alright to demand a good showing,
Even if you look like an ass,

Because if you don't then it just might happen,
That you'll be judged by the company you keep,
By those who will accept no less that the best,
While you're happy with mediocre feats.

And it's not alright,
To just ignore the problem.
It's much easier to drag people down,
Than to make them rise to the occasion.

The Key

Things can get good as quickly,
As an unexpected reward,
Lauding you for doing the things that you love, And encouraging you to do more,

Or things can also go downhill,
Even when everything seems fine,
Human Nature really makes no guarantee,
Exactly how you'll take it each time.

And things can refuse to go your way,
And that's when your nature truly shines.
Nothing like complete and utter frustration,
To make you lose your mind.

And it's alright,
How you act instinctively,
You have to know that everyone's dealing with the same thing.
And that's the key.

Pass On What

Passing on knowledge,
Is a tricky business,
For everybody has differing goals,
And different interpretations,

And your intent in giving a specific lesson,
May be lost on the majority of those,
You give it to, nay it might even creÀte,
A result diametrically opposed,

To what you intend, so the question is begged,
Why teach anything at all?
Part of the assumptions when teaching,
Is that human nature is universal.

And it's alright,
Even if your meaning is lost,
Your understanding of the world may be, too,
As every aging genertation becomes.

Saturday, March 06, 2010

Now

Now's the time, if there's any,
To get done,
The things you need, because the world is not,
Going to show patience,

And no one's going to give you time,
When they have things to do, too,
Some things that are waiting,
On you.

And even this,
That takes no time at all,
Is interfering with another task,
That either you,
Or someone else has.

And it's alright,
Maybe you can do two things at once.
Or maybe you're doing both in a bad way.
So, now it's time to make a choice.

Tweaking Your Perspective

Every day's the best day,
Because it's a progression from the last,
Folding in everything that is good,
And everything that's past,

That you'd rather not be living through,
Unless it's better than what you have now,
Which will pass, as well. That's easy to say,
When you've already been through hell.

But in reality, there's just one thing,
That determines if you're happy or sad,
Which is your turn of mind, though that's a cop-out,
When you're saying it without having had,

It not be alright.
The privileged always seem to write,
The advice for the truly distraught.
And how could they ever get it right?

Wednesday, March 03, 2010

Choices

Your only limitations,
Are all those things,
That define who you are,
As you keep evolving,

And with each new growth,
And opportunity,
More and more doors close,
Suddenly.

But, not all places have just one door,
And you may even find,
As you refine and become more powerful,
That there're bigger ones from behind.

So, it's alright,
Go ahead and choose an option.
Whether you do or don't, anyway,
Time continues its progression.

Helping Advice

Can you be at all helpful,
To anyone else,
Without the shortcomings of selfishness,
That tries to benefit the self,

And guide in a direction that creates,
The world in your own image?
If that's the case, then you better be,
An ideal human.

If not, and that's the odds, then how do you ensure,
That what benefits you also benefits those,
Who count on you fir direction,
And value your opinion the most?

Oh, you're alright,
Who's to say you have any responsibility,
For what others ultimately do?
We were all born free, weren't we?,

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

To Do List

How can it possibly be,
With all the time you have,
That you could ever not have enough of it,
To get completed, your tasks?

Could it be because other people,
Are working in their own time,
And require things, regardless of,
How I schedule mine?

And suddenly this thing that shouldn't exist,
Becomes the most powerful word you can say,
Demanding you put off until tomorrow,
What you'd rather do today.

And it's alright,
You make demands on others, I guess.
That's the price of collaboration,
Coupled with selfishness.

Flaws

We all have that something,
That certain je ne sais quoi,
That makes us excel at so many things,
And failures at other stuff.

And no one doesn't have both sides,
Because Nature has determined that,
Flaws grow in relation to,
The things we're good at.

And this is useful knowledge,
For those of us who lack both,
In dealing with those with many.
Though we'll still be beat, of course.

And it's alright,
At least we can let them know,
The flaws they may not realize they have,
That they may spare this normal Joe.

Feeling Better

There is absolutely no time,
That exists between,
The moment you feel life is treating you well,
To when you think it's never been,

Fair to you or what you wanted to do,
To fulfill who you really are.
And that can change from moment to moment, too,
And appear near or far.

But, if you really want to find out the truth,
About where you should be,
You will never, never know for sure,
And never feel comfortable, absolutely.

But it's alright,
You will feel okay occasionally,
If you stop to think you could have been,
A thousand times worse than you be.
