The Secret to Happiness

It's all fine and dandy,
To have the freedom to live,
How you want without hurting others,
If you've been given,

The wherewithal to know,
What it is you actually want,
And the means to achieve it,
Which requires a lot,

Of courage to risk what you have,
Or being born, already, with the means,
And, personally, someone with all these attributes,
I have rarely seen,

End up all right,
Because even if you have everything,
Human nature keeps you from being happy,
Unless you are insane.

When Looking Back

When you look back on your life,
What do you think you'll see?
Will you see you managed to do what you want,
In spite of society?

Will the enigma of other people,
And their intents,
No longer be such a puzzle?
Will you now know what they meant?

How will you have done things differently,
To ensure you can say in the end,
"I figured it out, this is what life,
Has always intended."?

That's it, right?
What, everyone wants.
Not to be called a fool,
At the end of our romps.

Strife

Emptiness can rush in so quickly,
Like a tsunami after earthquake,
Leaving all you ever did, meaningless,
So that your heart breaks,

And the cause is as mysterious,
As how the Monarch knows to fly south,
In search of that honeysuckle,
When three generations have done something else.

But that emptiness is nothing more,
Than a product of your mind,
For someone else in the exact same place,
May have much more value to find.

So, though it's alright,
To put the blame on your life,
That is a choice, like all else,
And does not reflect true source of your strife.

Outside The Box

What would you give up,
To have everything you want,
Or, at least, a chance at it?
Would you give up your job?

Would you give up the ones you love,
Or, at least, give up giving them,
The things your life affords you,
For your dedication,

To the way things are?
Because that's what you're paid for not:
The work you do,
But keeping off the detours,

That show up left and right and,
Tempt you to say,
That how how you've learned to see the world's,
Not the right way.

Born This Way

Every single day,
You can do so much,
After completing the routine that,
Allows you such,

Freedom and power,
Like those with so much money,
They could buy a car every day of their lives,
And never see,

An end to what they have.
The only difference is that,
Instead of taking time to buy a car,
You're trying to increase what you have,

To be alright,
In the eyes of others and yourself,
Though without the God-given privilege,
Of inconceivable wealth.

The Over Producers

Some people seem to get quite a lot,
Done within their life,
Which, in turn, makes the ambitious feel,
Not very nice,

Until you reflect upon some of the factors,
Allowing them the capability,
Often times beginning with privilege,
And a selfish mentality,

And then, once you are in a position,
That others see you as a producer,
You have a network of people to help you,
And grow into a network.

And you have the right,
To do all of these things, too,
And once you get the momentum,
In a short time, there's a lot that you can do.

Run From Success

The farther you get down,
A road you shouldn't traverse,
Because every part of your body,
Screams, 'things are getting worse!',

Don't abandon your route,
Because those voices could be wrong,
Scared by the possibility,
That all along,

You're on your way to doing,
What you do best,
A task with a lot of responsibility,
And you don't want, lest,
You lose it, alright?
Yes, that's our greatest fear:
Not that we don't get what we want,
But that what we want's too near.

Revolutionary Alternatives

When you feel like you are being,
Unfairly compromised,
And that your life is not your own,
And your rights are being denied,

You can't think or say,
What you want,
For how you will affect others,
And the government,

You may try another tack,
As some say,
And adress the conditions that led,
To things being this way,
And, hopefully, that will be alright,
Enough for you to vent,
The frustrations you are feeling,
Of how your life has went.

The Jenny Sun

Where does the sun go,
In the dark of night,
When everything seem to stand still,
Until the break of light,

When tomorrow is just an idea,
Whose time will never come,
Until from out of some hideaway,
Here comes the sun?

And the glory of a sunrise,
Lies in the birth of a new day,
For, wherever that sun has been hiding,
It's always born to be this way.

You see, it's alright,
For a new day always comes,
Threatening to wash away the bad,
And promising the death of complication.<\blockquote>

The Right Work

When you are asked to do,
More than you can,
With no avenue for an excuse,
When you fail again,

And you don't believe there is someone else,
Who would be able to achieve,
All that's asked, but, of course, that doesn't matter,
'Cause completions not what they need.

They need the burden available,
Until there's someone they like to play with,
Then all those tasks will suddenly melt away,
And congeal again onto someone else.
Alright, enough,
There's got to be something else,
That doesn't make you feel like you're inferior,
Or make you want to redefine yourself.

Hidden Oppression

We all know a democracy,
Is the best place to live,
In relation to these other countries,
Because you're allowed to give,

Your opinion on anything,
You don't like about the government,
As long as you're so poor you have nothing to live for,
Or so rich you dont give a shit,

For, of course, if you have a job which you need,
For the survival of your way of life,
Then it's better not to rock the boat,
And just keep in line,

For it's alright,
In principal to have a thought,
But if it challenges the status quo,
Beware of what you've bought.

Just Get By

Can you make your opinion known,
Without taking a side?
Can you get anywhere,
Without taking a ride?

If you want to get in the world,
And participate,
It's impossible not to step on toes,
Unless you're a lightweight,

Unless you are totally soulless,
And yet have no ambition,
And can get through a whole Oprah,
Without an opinion.

Oh, it's alright,
Go ahead and be unimportant.
I know it's not a big al for you,
And all the players are counting on it.

When It Seems Unworth It

Who knows how to get,
What it is you want,
Without the back-breaking work,
That no one really flaunts,

Who actually gets what they want,
Because, I guess, in their minds,
It wasn't really all that hard,
Once they found what they set out to find,

Like when a race is won and you are first,
And you think back to what you have done,
The moment of victory over-shadows,
All the exertion.

So, it's alright,
To sweat the sweat of the oppressed,
If it is you oppressing yourself,
To get what you wanted to get.

Living With Yourself

When all around you's changing,
And all you want's to do the same,
But you're afraid of who you might be,
And feel restrained,

And fear is what decides your every move,
Of losing all you have.
It's hard when you forget that everyone else,
Is doing all they can,

To hold on to the identity,
That gets them through the day.
We all make ourselves into,
Something, somehow, some way.

And, no, it's not alright,
To let out your frustrations.
That only serves to create enemies,
Of potential champions.

Things Can Change

There has to be a reason,
When you know you're in the wrong place,
Even if it seems there's no way out,
Because you're a rat in a race,

But with time anything can change,
But you also have to plan,
Your escape so you're not one hundred years old,
When you finally can,

Do the things you always wanted to,
But could never articulate,
Surely it's not that hard to figure out,
What makes your heart ache.

And it's alright,
If you'd rather dream,
And admire those who made it work.
It's a lot harder than it seems.

You Can Change the World

Think of all of the things,
Happening outside of what,
You are doing in the world you live.
It's outside, but,

It still affects the way you live,
Because some people need others to conform,
To a certain way of living for,
Their own world to be born,

And if you just let things,
Continue on this way,
You will never know what it is,
To live, like you would play,

Because, it's alright,
To follow your instincts,
And believe the world should be,
How you naturally think.
